We cannot deny that mankind had created something beautiful and elegant to satisfy our satisfaction since the age of Lucy the Australopithecus. Jewelry and other accessories are one of those things we made to decorate our naked body. Nowadays it’s quite challenging to identify which is made to imitate or the lab-created. The more we develop our technology, the more complicity is the jewelry, but how to tell which store sells us a real one, and that the store is trustworthy? The Gem and Jewel Institute of Thailand has the answer.
Recently, I coincidentally heard the news on the radio, about a group of villagers found gold-like minerals in Nong Sung District, Mukdahan Province, in which rocks were drilled and exploded into a deep rock valley approximately 27 meters deep. Later, scholars came to notify that the minerals were just typical Pyrite or fool's gold, which has a yellow appearance and shimmer similar to the real gold. After I carefully listened to this news, later it reminds me of a project of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand or the GIT called 'Buy with confidence'
The BWC project regarding buying standard quality gems and jewelry that we can trust. The entire project is a collaboration of GIT, the alliance group, and gem and jewelry stores. The aim is to create standards and confidence for consumers, tourists and to promote the image and reputation of Thailand regarding the standard quality of gems and jewelry products. Gem shops or companies that are interested in participating will be able to send samples of their own gems and jewelry to the institute, where the institute will examine the samples in its best laboratory in Thailand, which can examine the molecular structure and properties of the gemstones. Then the Institute will issue a certificate of ‘Buy With Confidence’ that the store has been certified by the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand.
If we are consumers who want to buy a fine and authentic piece of standard quality jewelry, there are five steps of the jewelry selection based on the BWC project. The first thing is to always look for the Buy with Confidence logo in front of the store. Next will be the process of scanning the QR code on the BWC sticker in front of the store to see details about the store that passed the certification criteria of Buy with confidence. Later, we can shop for favorite products and observe the products with the BWC Tag logo. The next step is to scan the QR code from the BWC Tag attached to the product to see details about the gem and jewelry that you are interested in buying. Also, you are able to request to see the certification that the store received from the Gem and Jewelry Institute or known as ‘GIT Gem and Jewelry Certificate’. And finally, the most important thing is that you can now make a decision to buy the products you like and have been certified the quality from GIT with confidence.
I am really impressed that we still have an organization that concerns of consumer protection in case of buying jewelry and gemstone, because if we decided to buy a piece of jewelry, then we have chosen to buy things that have sentimental value and valuable. Once we paid for it, we must get the best quality products, not an imitation. Therefore, buying jewelry in my perspective is really delicate and important. So, if anyone wants to buy quality gems and jewelry, you must look for the BWC tag before buying. “Buy with confidence, Look for GIT Certificate ".
